Getting The Most from Your iPod Battery

Since its release in 2001, there has been one continuous complaint about Apple’s signature iPod digital media player. The battery. Apple claims time and time again that their batteries will be able to be charged time and time again and will not develop memory issues that other rechargeable batteries are plagued with. Apple also claims that the iPod battery on the fifth generation video iPod will be able to function free of problems for up to twenty hours. While nobody is completely sure about how well the video iPod battery will hold up, it has been a proven fact that Apple is just plain wrong about the life of their previous generations’ batteries. Apparently, the batteries just do not last as long as Apple claims, leaving the doors open for a variety of companies who supply replacement batteries to Apple customers.

The standard in rechargeable batteries, lithium ion, is used in each and every iPod battery (third generation and later). As far as a lithium ion battery goes, it is supposed to last for at least five hundred recharges after the battery is completely drained. However, after about a hundred recharges or so, the battery will slowly begin to lose its power. Eventually, when you reach around the five hundredth charge mark, the lithium ion battery planted in the iPod will not be able to power your digital music player. To combat the recharge problem, Apple has issued a variety of steps you can take to get the most out of your iPod battery on its website. These include such pointers as what temperature to keep your iPod at and how much you should use your iPod in a month.

Perhaps your iPod battery has already gone dead. Apple has unfortunately made it extremely difficult to remove the battery from any of the generation one through four iPods and absolutely impossible to remove the battery from generation five video iPods. To keep their customers happy, Apple began offering a replacement program for dead iPod batteries. Much to their dismay however, third-party battery makers also began offering replacement deals for the battery, but at a much less significant cost to the consumer.
